Eighteen months, huh? That places release of Heart of the Swarm around January 2012. Obviously, Blizzard has made no official comment regarding the expansion’s release, but that might just be changed during Blizzcon, where there’s going to be plenty of Starcraft 2 related discussion. Heart of the Swarm will be focusing the story on the Zerg side of things, and considering the ending of the Terran-centric Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty, could be very interesting. In addition, seeing how Blizzard has no plans to improve the Zerg’s combat capabilities, we’ll see how weak the horde becomes given what has happened in the storyline.
Since Blizzard will be releasing each individual race’s stories within their own expansions, one could assume they get to spend more time fleshing out the story arc and, hopefully, adding extra combat units and abilities. Starcraft 2 is going to continue to be played a very consistent basis, with no signs of stopping, so waiting potentially eighteen months for a new expansion isn’t going to be much of a problem for fans.
What would you all like to see in Heart of the Swarm, beyond an official release date?
Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm has no confirmed release date, but might just come out in early 2012 for PC.
