Although FromSoftware has released other games after Bloodborne, including Sekiro and Elden Ring, fans haven’t forgotten about the Gothic game. A sequel could expand the game’s reach, allowing it to be enjoyed by gamers on other platforms, including Xbox and PC. As Elden Ring illustrated, gamers on all platforms enjoy FromSoftware’s signature gameplay loop, and a Bloodborne sequel could be yet another smash hit for the studio.

Why Bloodborne Never Received Widespread Accessibility
FromSoftware’s entire catalog of games is celebrated, though Bloodborne has managed to stand out and find a special place within the studio’s fan base. A unique aesthetic with Bloodborne’s Gothic-inspired environments and Lovecraftian elements make it stand out, and they come together to create an atmosphere that is equal parts creepy and mysterious. Furthermore, the gameplay places less emphasis on defensive maneuvers, encouraging players to make daring moves and get up close and personal with enemies.
Since the game’s release in 2015, it has been hailed as one of the greatest games of all time. However, it is not without flaws. Most notably, Bloodborne is a PS4 exclusive, and it taxes the hardware quite intensely. Consequently, gamers are liable to experience framerate drops and skipped frames, which can hamper combat. Furthermore, it is stuck running at 30 FPS, which is a relic of the past for many modern games. Despite being a console-exclusive game in a niche genre, Bloodborne has managed to sell over 2 million copies, which is impressive. However, it could have had a much wider reach if it were not limited to one console. It is possible to play the game on PS5 through backward compatibility, though this offers no benefits such as improved graphics or framerate boosts.
A Bloodborne Sequel Can Expand Yharnam’s Reach
For a long time, fans have begged for a possible Bloodborne remaster. These calls have only gotten louder after Demon’s Souls was brilliantly remade for the PS5 by Bluepoint, but still, they have gone unanswered for years, and at this point, it may be better for FromSoftware to focus on a sequel instead. Bloodborne 2 would be a new game made from the ground up for current-gen consoles and PC, which would hopefully eliminate many of the issues that plagued the first game. Furthermore, gamers would be able to finally experience the dark alleys of Yharnam at 60 FPS or higher.
Most importantly, it would be an opportunity to expand Bloodborne’s reach beyond PlayStation. Elden Ring was released on multiple platforms, and it was the second bestselling game of 2022. This illustrates the widespread hunger for FromSoftware games across the platforms. A Bloodborne sequel that makes itself available to Xbox and PC gamers would ensure more players than ever have the chance to uncover Yharnam’s dark and bloody lore.
To date, FromSoftware has given no word on a Bloodborne sequel, and judging by the studio’s presentation at The Game Awards 2022, developers are currently focused on the next Armored Core game. Nevertheless, after the monumental success of Elden Ring’s sales, the studio likely recognizes the popularity of its Soulslike games, which means Bloodborne 2 could always be on the table.
Bloodborne is available on PS4.
