Considering the fact that Bloodborne’s first-ever expansion pack with The Old Hunters DLC was just released last week, many fans are surely disappointed with the news, and they rightfully should be. After all, the server maintenance came as a surprise to everyone, as it was completely unannounced. Not to mention, Sony hasn’t been entirely forthcoming about the situation, for regarding the issue, the tech firm has only had this to say thus far:
Although there is no clear answer as to why the server maintenance is taking place, many are speculating that it is due to an existing glitch that allowed players free and unfettered access to Bloodborne’s latest DLC. As it happens, the closest explanation that we’ve received as to what’s really going on comes from a comment in the game’s official subreddit by way of Tim Wernicke, Bloodborne’s lead hosting engineer, with it reading:
We apologize for the inconvenience, and thank you for playing Bloodborne."
Should an exploit that lets folks take advantage of every single bit of the $20 worth of new weapons and enemies in the DLC actually exist, then it’s definitely a smart and reasonable move on developers’ part to have shut down the servers for the time being. Furthermore, if that is indeed the case, then From Software’s initial announcement of the online modes being defunct for “a few days” could very well be a conservative estimate, as fans might have to wait even longer for the features to return.
I apologize that I can’t be more specific, but I wanted to let you know that we value your feedback, and what you’re doing here is really helping. So, thanks!"
In the meantime, players will have to explore the world of Yharnam without any multiplayer elements, so they may require some assistance in their quests. Thankfully, we have a couple of a solid guides that will aid those in need. For starters, fans can go beast mode with this guide, and take The Old Hunters by storm as a grizzled and feral monster. Alternatively, if fresh gear is what gamers are after, then they should follow along with our helpful guide on how to get the Holy Moonlight Sword.
Since Bloodborne’s PvP attributes are what help bolster the game’s replay value, developers are undoubtedly putting as much effort as possible into resolving the problem. Bearing that in mind, hopefully servers will be back online sooner rather than later.
Bloodborne and its recently released DLC, The Old Hunters, is available now exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
